General printer status and error-state reference
A structured vocabulary for printer status labels, error records, emitting layers, and state transitions.

Status is an observation
A status record reports what a queue, renderer, port, protocol, or device believes at a given point. An error-state label describes a condition in that reporting system; it is not automatically a diagnosis of the physical printer.
Error layers
A queue can report a job or ordering condition, a renderer can report a processing condition, a port can report delivery, and the device can report its own status. These states can coexist and should retain their source component.
Transitions carry meaning
A transition from ready to processing, paused, unavailable, or device-reported error is more informative when paired with job identity, endpoint, protocol, package, and version context. A single label without history is intentionally limited evidence.
Reference language
Use precise terms such as host status, protocol response, device report, or package state. This page is a model for reading records, not a troubleshooting guide or a set of repair instructions.

Questions and answers
Does an error label identify the failed component?
Not by itself. The emitting layer and surrounding state records are needed to interpret it.
Is a device report the same as a queue error?
No. They are separate observations that may be displayed together.
