Name the reporting layer

A queue can report job state, a port can report delivery state, a renderer can report processing state, and the device can report status. An Epson status label has meaning only when its source component is known.

Behavior is not a single state

Behavior describes what a component does with a request; state describes its current condition. A queue may hold a job while the protocol session changes, and those are concurrent but different observations.

Capability and output context

The selected package and protocol determine how jobs and options are represented. Device status can add information about a physical resource, but it does not replace queue or renderer state.

Reference language
