Firmware and driver are different
Firmware is persistent code on or close to the device; a printer driver is host software that represents the device to a print interface. They can interact across a protocol but have separate identities, release records, and lifecycle owners.
Version and provenance
A firmware record should identify the exact product, device revision when documented, version, publisher, and release context. A host package record uses comparable identity fields but describes different artifacts. One version number must not stand in for both.
Capability transitions
A firmware change can alter device behavior or declared capabilities, while a host package change can alter rendering or queue metadata. Compatibility is the relationship between the resulting device declarations and host representation.
Documentation boundaries
Epson product documentation defines device-specific firmware terminology, while Microsoft Learn describes host print components. This page does not provide firmware links, update procedures, dates, or performance promises.
