Two functional interfaces

A multifunction device can expose a print interface and an image-acquisition interface. Printer rendering sends page descriptions toward the device; scanner acquisition receives image data through a separate protocol or API. One product identity does not make those interfaces identical.

Package boundaries

A package ecosystem can contain print rendering, scanner acquisition, configuration, and status components. Compatibility must be considered per function, exact model, host platform, architecture, connection, and declared package role.

Standard acquisition vocabulary

A host-side acquisition interface provides a vocabulary for supported image devices. Vendor components can expose different interfaces. The presence of a print queue does not prove that an acquisition component is present.

Does a working print queue prove scanner compatibility?

No. Print and acquisition are separate interfaces and can have different package or protocol requirements.

Is a host acquisition interface an HP-only technology?

No. It is a host-side image-acquisition model; HP products may expose supported interfaces through it or through vendor components.
