Identity and association

A Canon package lifecycle begins with model, platform, architecture, protocol, and publisher identity. Association links that record to a host queue or printer interface; package presence alone does not establish the relationship.

Active representation

During its active phase, a renderer turns jobs into a device-understandable representation and metadata exposes declared capabilities. Configuration or status components can have their own lifecycle and should not be merged with rendering without evidence.

Version transitions

A new package version can change binaries, catalogs, signing records, supported platforms, or capability metadata. Comparing versions requires the exact Canon model and interface context rather than a number alone.

Retirement

Retirement marks the end of a package’s supported role. It does not state that the physical printer has stopped working or that another package will provide equivalent capabilities. Canon documentation supplies product-specific lifecycle terminology.
